What Is Tree Surgery?

If you are not sure what tree Surgery is or if you need a tree surgeon then this post can help you. Browns Landscape Solutions has decades of horticultural and Arboricultural experience and has been established in the local Herts, Beds and Bucks area since 2001.

Tree Surgery is defined as: the pruning and treating of old or damaged trees in order to preserve them. Therefore, Tree surgery is the physical act of cutting or pruning trees. Tree surgery involves:

  • Choosing the right tools for the job

  • Making suitable cuts in the correct order (and the right time of year)

  • Making accurate pruning cuts depending on the form and condition of the tree.

  • Anticipating the outcome of your prune or cut both long and short term (immediately in some cases)

These are all things that enable a tree surgeon to perform competent, safe and professional tree surgery. Thinking of the tree’s welfare and future health is essential when performing tree surgery. Hiring a “tree surgeon” without adequate training, certification or experience can result in pruning cuts being made in unsuitable places or to a poorly finished standard. This can ultimately affect the life of the tree and even the safety of the homeowner.

Tree Surgeons and their tree surgery work should be carried out to British Standard BS3998 British Standard for Tree Work. Browns Landscape Solutions LTD adhere to these standards.

Pruning is the most common tree maintenance procedure under the tree surgery umbrella of terminology.. Pruning is often desirable or necessary to improve tree structure, limit nuisance or maintain safety. Excessive, poorly carried out or unnecessary pruning can do more harm than good since each cut has the potential to change the growth of a tree, cause damage or allow the entry of wood decaying organisms (see Deadwooding). Therefore no branch should be removed without a good reason, and then only in accordance with best practice guidance. Older trees do not tolerate pruning as well as younger trees and substantial pruning can be very damaging. The effect of pruning also varies between species and some are not naturally tolerant of significant cutting, notably beech and birch. Hiring an experienced, local, tree surgery company like Browns Landscape Solutions will ensure your tree gets the best possible care.
